The cosmic butterfly

This intresting HII region in the constellation of Cygnus appears in the shape of a butterfly because a dense patch of dust blocks most of the light from the ionized gas and dust behind it. The wings of the butterfly appear brighter because multiple near-by stars emit their charged particles, known as stellar winds, which ionise the gasses in the nebula causing it to emit light.
